Another 2-1 win for D1

Patrick CarverIt was another big win for Majestic DI on their path to redemption in the top division of the ADASL.  After another slow start to the season, the team has rebounded with four straight wins and a trip to the quarterfinals of the Perrin Cup.

After a big win against Georgia Tech FC before the winter break, Majestic kicked off 2012 with a gutsy win over a much improved Sting Gold squad.  After giving up an early goal, Majestic began to control possession and assert themselves in the offensive third.  The first half ended with Sting ahead 1-0.

The second-half kicked off with a renewed sense of urgency from Majestic.  The squad was getting more chances but failed to put one in the back of the net.  They finally broke through midway through the half when Ben Buerger latched on to failed clearance and slammed it home to pull the Reds back even with Sting.

Like a pack of sharks, Majestic smelled blood in the water and cranked up the hunt for the second goal.  After numerous chances, the squad still couldn't find the back of the net with time running out.  Thanks to Sting Gold's stalling tactics earlier in the half, there was a solid amount of stoppage time added to the match.

With a minute to go, Majestic final broke through with the game winner.  Another failed clearance bounced to Patrick Carver who chested it down and struck a half-volley in the back of the net.  A fitting end for a club that never seems to give up in a game.

An important league match against FC Liljian awaits Majestic this weekend with an opportunity to leap-frog them for 3rd place.

AC Majestic 4 Points Clear At The Top Of The Table After 3-0 Win

Going into a cool Sunday morning, AC Majestic gathered early for their weekly warm up.  15+ players ready to go at it with the 2nd place team (2nd week in a row we met a team in the top of the table), an air of confidence rolled through the team as the team was called together to announce the starting lineup.  That was cut short as the refs announced that the other team did not have enough to start…Within in the next 10 minutes, Nuesoft had 10 and the game commenced.

Within the first 10 minutes, AC Majestic has at least 5 solid chances to take the lead and put a very offensively minded team on their heels.  Unfortunately Gary could not capitalize on a few early Christmas gift’s the Nuesoft defense left for him, feet from the mouth of the goal.  The boys quickly realized that the Nuesoft defense was slow and completely out of sync and continue controlling the ball, moving it efficiently from side to side until openings appeared.  Flashes of Gunnar and Michael streaking towards goal were not uncommon, the keeper making a few iffy saves and with some luck, the ball remained out of a very inviting Nuesoft net.

15 minutes into the game, Nuesoft was able to field a full team and shortly afterwards, had one sub.  Their two late comers were two of their more skilled players and their strategy changed, push the ball forward and let their extremely fast and agile forward try and beat our back 4 one on one.  This might have been fruitful if the passes were not painfully obvious and with good defense from Rob, Alex, Ross and Billy – we were able to completely frustrate their attack.  Even the few changes that they might have had were squashed by a charging AC Majestic keeper, often having to handle the ball well outside the box, either with a header or daring slide tackle…  Nuesoft had one shot in first half that was safely perried wide.

25 minutes into the game, AC Majestic capitalized on a gorgeous ball over the top from Michael and Gunnar punished the slow and out of shape Nuesoft defense, 1-0 Majestic…  The rest of the first half remained the same and while it could have been 5-0, it was not and Nuesoft was still very much in the game going into the 2nd half.

Starting the 2nd half, Nuesoft pushed forward and hard, the Majestic team bending but not breaking.  It was very obvious that Nuesoft needed to equalize early and quickly if they stood a chance to bet our defensive 5.  As the early minutes went by, the leading team pushed back and gained control of the match again.  It was very evident that this was our game to lose and with only 1 goal, Majestic continue to push forward and with nice movement of the ball and some outstanding individual skills, Nuesoft found a plethora or Majestic players 6 yards from their box and a nice ball found the feet of Chris, he calmly netted the ball… 2-0 and our 7th win of the season was in sight.

Other than trying to feed the ball to their very speedy attackers, Nuesoft has no other options or was not creative enough to make other chances.  It was clear that as long as we shut that option down, we would keep our net clean.  As the final minutes came to an end, Nuesoft never gave up on their one style of attack, although they now had 5 attackers trying to break through.  That left their already slow defense in a bad position and with a huge throw, after a save from the Majestic keeper to Gary, and an even bigger cross to a wide open Tim, Majestic put the nail in the coffin as the final whistle blew, 3-0 against a scoring machine of a team…

Thanks to Chris Hess for the weekly writeup

Huge 5-1 Win Vaults AC Majestic Into 1st Place

After a Slow start to the season, a surging AC Majestic now sees them sitting at the top of the division 2 table for the first time in their three year history.  Majestic erupted for 5 straight second half goals against a tough KLS Silverbacks side that had only conceeded 3 goals all season, allowing them to jump first place Nuesoft after they drew 3-3 in their Sunday match.

AC Majestic knew that this game was going to be a battle as they were up against a 3rd place KLS side who were undefeated and giving up less than a goal a game.  The first half was well contested on both sides, but AC clearly had the better of the play, possibly putting together their best half of soccer to date. Great ball control and efficient passing led to a wide array of chances but the team was unable to put the ball in the net, and with most shots missing the target, the keeper was never challanged.  Majestic was also extremely strong defensively, not allowing the Silverbacks anywhere near their goal.  However, despite Majestic's strong play, the game entered halftime with neither team scoring.

Majestic was confident in their game plan so no halftime adjustments were made, but a more confident KLS team emerged after the break and they were able to spend more time in the Majestic end and had plenty of posession.  Then, with 10 minutes gone in the second half, a deflected cross skidded across the goal mouth, landed right on the foot of a Silverback's player and he fired it into the net.  Suddenly, AC was down 1-0.  Yet, it was only a matter of time before Majestic would turn around the momentum in a hurry!  Less than five minutes later, Majestic tied the match on a corner kick that was finished by Gary Davis when the ball fell right to his feet a few yards from goal.  Only minutes after that, the true turning point of the game happened when a KLS player received a second yellow card, lessening their side to 10 players.  Within minutes, Majestic went on the attack and when a wicked strike by midfielder Charlie Pinto found the back of the net from 20 yards out, the 3 points were within sight.  Next, a quick counter by Oscar Caicedo led to a cross that found the boot of Allan Waters, all but assuring AC the 3 points.  Another goal by David Scavone and then one from Caicedo, put the final score at 5-1.

AC Majestic easily put together their most complete 90 minutes of soccer this season, setting up a showdown with second place and still undefeated Nuesoft in two weeks time.

AC Majestic Win 1-0; Contribute To Club's Perfect Weekend

With both division one and three teams winning this weekend, it was up to the division two squad to complete the clubs 3-0 weekend, and they did so by defeating a scrappy Southern Wolves squad 1-0.

Conditions were a little windy, but otherwise perfect for mid-November in Atlanta, and both teams came ready to play.  AC Majestic had the benefit of a full squad where as the Wolves had just enough to field a full team and though they did their best, it seemed that their lack of subs clearly came back to haunt them later in the game.  The first half was not as pretty for AC Majestic as the second half would be, as the Wolves tough and physical style seemed to pull the boys off their game, creating a game where it was tough for either team to gain any real momentum.  It was also hard to say who had the best of play during the first half as legit scoring chances were few and far between, and when partial breakthroughs happened, both keepers were up to the task.  After a chippy first half, and a couple yellow cards shown to both sides, the game remained scoreless after 45 minutes.

When the second half started, AC Majestic seemed to have a better grasp on the ball and were able to impose their style of play on the game rather than letting the wolves control the tempo.  AC began to move the ball and create chances and finally got the break through they were looking for around the 65 minute mark.  Allan Waters received a great through ball and rather than test his luck going to goal he made a great lob pass to a streaking Adam Wright down the right hand side of the box.  The keeper made really his only error of the game by not charging the ball, and when he did, he was a little too late and Wright was able to chip the ball absolutely perfectly over the keepers head and into the net.  The boys were elated and took firm control of the match after that.  As the Wolves pressed for the equalizer, AC had many opportunites to put the game out of reach but were unable to find the back of the net again, and fortunately on this day one was enough.

The win allowed AC Majestic to keep pace with the other top teams in the division and sees them only one point out of first place.  Next week is a match with undefeated KLS Silverbacks who sit third in the table so a lot will be on the line.
